The plastic bottle is supposed to act as the chest cavity, the straw is the trachea. The plastic band could be the epiglottis. The balloon is the lungs and the blue balloon is the diaphragm. The difference between the model and real life is that in real life we have two lungs and not one. Also the model lacks alveoli and all the little but important functions of the lungs.
